I have NYC on the brain. 🚕🗽🍎

I have a birthday coming up and my sweet hubby surprised me by planning a few days together in NYC — one of my absolute fav places on the planet. We’re going to see Dear Evan Hansen (@dearevanhansen) before it closes on Broadway, see SIX (@sixthemusical), and take in the city. I’m crazy excited about all of the above!

An update to my self portrait illo can only mean one thing: stuffs about to go down. 👏🏻

Now that our wedding and reception are in the books, we’ve moved on to our next big project: creating my studio space. I’ll share more soon but I’m super excited about having a creative space to make messes in soon. ❤️🎨👨‍🎨🖌

(On a side note: this is the first version I’ve ever drawn without my glasses! After 35 years of wearing them daily, I had corrective surgery earlier this year and now have 20/20 vision.) 💃🏼🍾

Headed overseas with the family soon and I had to get my passport photo taken. Trying to defy decades of instinct to smile when a camera is pointed at you is torturous. 😂 Thankful for the very patient clerk helping take the photo. Mission accomplished!

When a loved one surprised you with frozen custard and you’re all OMG I LOVE YOU but then you realize you’ve been laying around for a week eating frozen custard and not exercising and your sweatpants are getting a lil snug in the waist.

To quote Fergie, I’ve been working on my fitness for a minute now. I hit a wall recently where I wasn’t seeing the exact results I wanted despite putting in the work. I got a good reminder that change can be incremental when it comes to fitness. It was also a good moment to take stock of how far I’ve come on this journey. Although I don’t see the exact all-over results I want today, and I have work left to do, I’ve come a long way. I’ve lost a bunch of weight, gained a bunch of muscle mass, gained bone mass, lowered my BMI, lowered my body fat and steadily increased my max weight on the bench and for leg presses. I’m nowhere near goal, but I’ve made huge gains in endurance and overall athleticism. I’m not trying the latest diet or focused on quickly dropping weight; I’m working towards a lasting transformation that improves my health, strength and quality of life. Just gotta remember what my girl Jordin Sparks sang to me today during my run: one step at a time.

Thankful to my family and friends who have been overwhelmingly supportive and encouraging. (And for all the “call me Daddy” memes.) 😂 You are the best (and also jerks). 😊

Original Instagram Caption: The third, and final, sketch in this series of vintage Tulsa neon signs. The Oasis Motel located on Historic Route 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Once again our state is waking up after a long night of severe weather and sirens. Multiple tornadoes touched down in the OKC and Tulsa metro areas. We have damage and lives were lost. Much of the area is still dealing with flooding and voluntary evacuations, as decades old levees are put under prolonged strain. More flooding is in imminent with the rain totals continuing to rise. If you have a few moments today, send some good energy to the people of Oklahoma.

Hi there. This post is about me because I always love the #meettheartist posts but I’ve never taken the time to do one. Until now! You’re welcome. 😂..LIKES: RAISING DION is my current favorite Netflix binge. JENNY LEWIS is playing Tulsa this week and I can’t wait to see her! SWEATER WEATHER who remembers that SNL skit? So glad it’s finally here tho. WORKING ON MY HOUSE has been a constant theme lately. I’ve put in a gravel patio and now I’m doing a hand-poured cement border around the patio and paths. Fall is the time for WEEKEND TRIPS with the people you love (and like). TEA & A BOOK my favorite part of the season: curling up under a blanket on these cool, rainy days with a glass of tea and escaping into a book. ..DON’T LIKES: I love going to the gym but I loathe LEG DAY even though these legs are fire. Never liked ONIONS on about anything; even worse when they are surprise onions. Tagging on to my likes above, the worst part of reading is the END OF A GOOD BOOK. And, in general, not a huge fan of PEOPLE WHO ARE JERKS.

Original Instagram Caption: We’re still so far out from the 2020 elections that I’ve gone out of my way to avoid politics. Over the past couple of months, @pete.buttigieg has changed that. As a gay man, of course his journey resonates with me. Of course I want to see a member of my community succeed. But that wasn’t enough to convince me that he deserved my support - especially this early. Then I researched his background. I learned about his education, his service in the armed forces and his time as an elected official. I listened to him speak. I was continuously impressed with his composure, thoughtfulness and with his ideas. I followed his hilarious husband, @chasten.buttigieg, on Twitter. All of this to say: I’m in the race. I believe in Pete’s vision of an inclusive, united country focused on moving forward. I know politics are divisive. I’m from the school where I believe we can agree to disagree if we see the world differently. But I feel strongly that we need a change in 2020. I believe that Pete Buttigieg is the change we need. (My only complaint: like the @myfavoritemurder ladies say...spell it like you say it.) 😊
