Every year when #inktober rolls around, I tell myself I’m *really* going to do it this year. And, every year, I get busy and do one or two illustrations - and never in ink. 😂 I can’t commit to posting a new drawing every day because, well, life. But I’ve been wanting to do a series of friendly monsters for awhile now and what better time? Starting off with Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. .
Friendly Monsters: Bigfoot
Continuing my theme of friendly monsters, here’s Bigfoot, who likes board games, making organic soaps and watching Golden Girls marathons. Not one to normally humble-brag, he doesn’t mind confirming that the rumors about his shoe size are in fact quite accurate.
Tis the Season
Y’all it’s been a busy season around here lately and I’ve dropped the ball on updating ye ole blog. Gonna try to get back into the habit though!
Are you all getting pumped about the holiday season? For us, it starts with Halloween and then we go into Thanksgiving and, of course, finish out with Christmas and New Years. We are already decorated and ready for Halloween - no shame over here.
Here is our regular, happy kitty.
And then spooky, Halloween kitty comes out to play.
Tulsa Landmarks: Desert Hills Motel
Celebrating the city that I love as we continue to deal with a flood we won’t soon forget. This neon sign has been a favorite of mine since I was a little boy. The Desert Hills Motel is located on historic Route 66 and is an iconic landmark.
Tulsa Landmarks: Oasis Motel
The third, and final, sketch in this series of vintage Tulsa neon signs. The Oasis Motel located on Historic Route 66 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Once again our state is waking up after a long night of severe weather and sirens. Multiple tornadoes touched down in the OKC and Tulsa metro areas. We have damage and lives were lost. Much of the area is still dealing with flooding and voluntary evacuations, as decades old levees are put under prolonged strain. More flooding is in imminent with the rain totals continuing to rise. If you have a few moments today, send some good energy to the people of Oklahoma.
Tulsa Landmarks: Daylight Donuts
I guess this is becoming a series. 😊 This was always my favorite donut shop growing up in Tulsa, with that classic mid century neon sign out front. It fell into disrepair over time but, thankfully, @livileesdonuts ‘s took over the location, refurbished the sign and renovated the shop. We still stop in often for donuts. 🍩
